Ghiordes

A fine and beautiful example of the Ghiordes prayer rug. The palette is unusual with soft blues and yellows along with the olive green that dominates the central field. Red is used to outline many of the shapes which gives it a distinctive look. I would place this piece at the end of the 18th century based on its palette and weave. It is a very thin rug almost like an embroidery, a parallel heightened by the use of the red. I think this rug would look great as wall hanging particularly against a dark background. It certainly conveys it’s great age well.

Condition: Quite worn with many old repairs. I think bearing in mind its age the condition is reasonable.
