Ladik Prayer Rug

This is a classic Tulip Ladik with a lovely palette and a great look. There is something about Turkish rugs that excites me, possibly because you don’t see many of them and the palette is so different to Caucasian and Persian pieces. I find this one very pleasing and I particularly like the main border, the contrast of the blue against the red field is delightful too.

Date: 1880
Condition: There is s a lot of old restoration on this rug, major areas have been rewoven and this is visible in the red field. I think the restoration doesn’t detract from its beauty and having some age has mellowed and become part of its story.
