Oushak Rug with Harshang design
A refined Oushak carpet distinguished by an all-over pattern of large-scale palmettes of the 'harshang' type, derived from 17th and 18th century Safavid Persian rugs, set against a light blue background. Oushaks were very much in demand in Europe during the late nineteenth century, when the fashion for Orientalism was at its peak. It is quite rare to find Oushaks of such contained dimensions with such an oversize pattern, offering an ideal backdrop for many of our most stylish interiors.
