Fine Kuba Kilim

This immaculate Caucasian kilim was woven in the Kuba district of the Eastern Caucasus in the last quarter of the 19th century. Technically, it is a masterpiece with fine wool and wonderful dyes. The quality is exceptional too. The design is dominated by the repeating stylised lighting palmette, often referred to as a 'racing car', but derived from 18th century Kuba 'blossom carpets. The simple stylised meandering vine border is a perfect complement to the boldness of the field. All this has been worked with beautiful subtle colors. This is a highly decorative and striking kilim which would enliven many settings.
