Scandinavian Wool Pile Rug

This compelling Swedish pile rug is dated to 1939. The iconography is interesting. The central panel appears to depict St George slaying the dragon, an image seen in the arts all over Europe. However the figures either side of St George are quite enigmatic, as are the buildings drawn below them. One can imagine this rug hanging on a wall or decorating a floor.
