Hinggi cloth Sumba Island
An old ‘Hinggi’ cloth from Sumba Island in Eastern Indonesia: Dutch cotton and Ikat dyed. These were used as hip or shoulder garments, used on special occasions as a sign of rank or status. The iconography shows a chiefs house with ancestor figures and elements of high rank such as horses and fine food, including roasted pigs.
