Transcaucasian Verneh

This dazzling flatweave manages to feel be both archaic and cool at the same time. Woven in five panels and then joined, the design is composed of squares in offset rows each decorated with geometric ornaments. Woven on a red plain weave background, the limited colour combination is dramatic with shades of red, yellow indigo, green and white, and touches of fuchsine. It's a very mesmerising combination and a very good example of pre-commercial rural weaving from the Transcaucasus.
