Fine Qashqai Kilim

The Qashqai are one of the oldest nomadic tribes of southern Persia. They have a long and rich weaving tradition which includes pile rugs, bags as well as kilims. The kilims were often woven for domestic use, and often display the most archaic of the Qashqai design ornaments. This piece, dating to the early 20th century, is a fine example. It has soft wool and all natural dyes. The repeat design is nicely drawn and is typical of the group. Note the variety borders. The light blue field is very decorative and is complemented by all the colours. I imagine this piece would work equally well on the floor or hanging on a wall.
