Kurd-Bidjar Rug

Although ostensibly, this striking rug resembles late 19th century Bidjar weaving, the graphics are clearly inspired by earlier Kurdish rugs and in all likelihood it was woven by Kurdish weavers. It has an all wool foundation and a wonderful range of colours, including the a lovely light blue, terracotta, and the undyed camel's hair in the field. The ornamentation is archaic and dramatic, and includes Persian lions, camels, eagle style medallions and single botehs. It is a feast for the eyes. The field is framed by an elegantly drawn repeating floral border in lovely shades of terracotta and light blue. It is a truly charismatic rug and the height of Persian village weaving.
Origin: West Persia
